Poetry Competition: “Poverty and Profit in Today’s American Cities and Towns”
Theme:
We invite you to write a poem about your city or town. Explore the theme of Poverty and Profit in the context of your hometown. Together, we aim to capture the diverse realities of the 38 urban centers and rural communities along the route of the Poetry Train 2025!
Anthology:
The best poem from each city or town will be selected for our anthology, which will feature the winning poems, accompanied by a photograph of each poet taken by Erik van Loon, along with a short biography written by the poet. Only poets who read their selected poem in the Poetry Cab will be included in the anthology. These 38 poetry readings will also be filmed for a special exhibition, and the anthology will be available for purchase at Poetry Downtown 2024.
Free Rides For Poets:
From March 11 to 24, Erik van Loon will travel in the Poetry Cab, visiting the 38 cities and towns along the route of the Poetry Train. In each location, he will select one poet to be included in the anthology and offer them a fun and free ride in the Poetry Cab.
Deadline:
Please submit your poem at least 72 hours before the Poetry Cab arrives in your city or town. We require at least 24 hours to review all entries and make a fair selection.
Entry Fee:
There is a $10 entry fee, payable via Paypal in advance. We will not consider poems without the required payment.
